ANY CITIZEN MAY REGISTER TO VOTE


Any person may register to vote, provided that he or she:

●     is a citizen of the United States

●     resides in Alabama

●     resides in DeKalb County.

●     for Municipal Elections, a person must have resided in the municipality for at least 30 days prior to voting in the election.

●     is at least 18 years old on or before election date.

●    has not been legally declared "mentally incompetent to vote" by a court.

●     and has not been barred from voting due to a disqualifying felony conviction.

 

 Deadline for Registering to Vote:

Voter Registration cut-off is ten (10) days before an election.

Where and How to Register to Vote:

A citizen may register to vote:

●    at the Board of Registrars office located in the DeKalb County Commission building in Fort Payne

●    at public Libraries

●    at the DeKalb County Courthouse Probate Judges Office

●     or by mail-in form downloaded from the Secretary of State's website at:  www.alabamavotes.gov

Information requested: 

Valid 911 residential address, mailing address, Date of Birth, Home telephone number, Driver's license number or the last four digits of your Social Security number.  Applications must be filled out in ink completely and legibly.

ABSENTEE BALLOT APPLICATION:

To obtain an absentee ballot, write or visit the local Absentee Election Manager, Pam Simpson, Circuit Clerk.  You may contact her at the DeKalb County Courthouse located at 300 Grand Ave SW, Suite 202, Fort Payne, AL 35967 or by phone at 256-845-8525.

▪  It is not necessary to give a party choice for the general election; however, in a party primary a voter may participate in only one political party's primary; thus a choice must be designated so that the appropriate ballot can be provided.  If the voter declines or fails to designate a choice for a primary or primary runoff ballot, the absentee election manager may send only the ballot for the constitutional amendments.

The absentee ballot application must be returned to the Absentee Election Manager by the voter in person (or by the voter's designee in case of medical emergency voting) or by U.S. Mail.

▪    Alabama polling places are open from 7AM to 7PM Central Standard Time.
